Facebook Workplace now has 5 million paid users, adds Workplace Rooms integration

Facebook’s collaboration platform for working professionals has hit 5 million paid users. Facebook Workplace is also getting its own version of Messenger Rooms for video meetings and a bunch of other features that will roll out in June.

Facebook Workplace like other similar platforms is witnessing user growth and activity due to the pandemic which has forced people across the world to work from home. Facebook itself says that this remote work trend “will have lasting consequences”.

Facebook Workplace launched back in 2016, and the company reached its 3 million paid subscribers mark only last October. It has now gained 2 million more paid users within a span of six months. One of its features called “Work Groups” has over 20 million monthly active users and so far 170,000 groups have been created on the platform, Facebook said.

Workplace Rooms like Messenger Rooms will host up to 50 people at once. Anyone can join the video meeting even if they’re not from the same company or don’t have a Workplace account but as long as they have the link. Facebook Workplace is also getting a “Live Producer” feature that will let users stream high-quality live videos, share screen, host Q&As and get real-time health metrics.

Live captions, translations and caption editing are also coming to Facebook Workplace. Captions for live broadcasts will be available in multiple languages. There’s in-line editing tool which will ensure the captions go with the video timing.

Facebook Workplace users who have Portal can also host their live sessions from the device through “Workplace Live”. Portal is also getting Workplace Rooms while Portal TV is getting support for Workplace.
