'Football Manager 2014' to support Linux

With soccer management game 'Football Manager 2013' confirmed as the series' best seller, Sports Interactive director Miles Jacobson announced that its 2014 edition will be released on Linux as well as Windows and Mac.

Miles Jacobson made the announcement via his Twitter and Facebook feeds over the weekend, specifying that the most recent, long-term release of free Linux OS Ubuntu 12.04 was the one they were supporting.

The development means that budding team managers will be able to continue shaping their teams across all three platforms.

'If you have a Macbook, Windows laptop and Linux desktop (for example) you'll be able to play the game on each of those machines.'

As expected, 'Football Manager 2014' will use the Steam Network in enabling players to sync their progress across various machines using one online account.

The Steam Network, having started integrating Mac support in 2010, then added support for Linux in February 2013, again using the Ubuntu version as a benchmark.

No release date or even release estimate has been set for 'Football Manager 2014', assured Jacobson, with new and returning features to be elaborated upon later in the year.

Financial data released by Sega earlier in May showed that 'FM 2013' accumulated 940,000 sales between its launch on November 2, 2012 and March 31, 2013.

The series has become well known for the accuracy of its player information, with Sports Interactive employing professional scouts to provide up-to-date analysis of youth players and rising stars.
