“We offer you convenience of shopping everything that you need for your home - be it fresh fruits & vegetables, rice, dals, oil, packaged food, dairy item, frozen, pet food, household cleaning items & personal care products from a single virtual store,” says the About Us page on the website.

Reliance JioMart’s launch comes shortly after the company raised back-to-back investments from Facebook and different equity firms such as Silver Lake, KKR and others. Facebook-Jio deal, in particular, is deemed crucial as it allows Jio to leverage Facebook’s WhatsApp messaging platform to push its new e-commerce offering.

That said, Reliance JioMart is going to face a strong competition from the incumbent players such as Grofers and BigBasket.

Amazon is also entering into the food delivery segment in India. The e-commerce company has already been supplying essential items amid the Covid-19 lockdowns. It has also launched a new programme to help local shops reach customers online.
