TikTok will now tell you why your video was removed

For all those countries where TikTok is still up and about, here’s news for you. If any of your videos are pulled off, TikTok is going to tell you why it has been pulled off from the platform. At least, vaguely.

So far, TikTok would just tell you that the video had violated ‘community guidelines’ and you were welcome to do what you wished with that information. You could obviously appeal.

TikTok has announced that they will be explaining why the video was removed by stating the exact policy it has violated. This is similar to what other social media platforms do.

Like it was earlier, you can still submit and appeal, but now you will have some idea as to what you are appealing against. TikTok said in the announcement that they have been experimenting with these new notifications for a few months and has mentioned that appeals have actually gone down by 14%.

“Our goals are to enhance the transparency and education around our Community Guidelines to reduce misunderstandings about content on our platform, and the results have been promising,” TikTok wrote.

“We're also working to support our community through these notifications. For instance, when content is flagged as self-harm or suicide-related, we'll provide access to expert resources through a second notification,” the platform added.

TikTok released its second transparency report in July this year and had mentioned then that the platform had started keeping track of the specific reasons why it removes each video.
