Top apps for festive fun this Christmas

Apple's app store has showcased a selection of free and paid apps for entertainment over the holiday season.

The free and paid applications selected by Apple and highlighted on the US app store under the heading 'Festive Fun' are as follows:

01. Angry Birds Seasons

($0.99)

The wildly popular Angry Birds series gets a festive makeover in this holiday themed app. This time the Angry Birds tackle their arch enemies the pigs over 25 seasonal levels featuring snow scenes and Christmas hats.

02. Doodle Jump Christmas Special

($0.99)

The popular Doodle Jump in which players have to guide the Doodler up a series of levels without falling, goes festive with monsters in Santa hats, deadly chimneys and evil Christmas trees.

03. Let's Create! Christmas

This free application allows users to design their own Christmas baubles, then superimpose their creation on a virtual postcard to share with their friends.

04. Hamster Holidays

($0.99)

This app features Jingle, Nick, House, Dre, Tank, Noel, Decker and Joy -- eight hamsters who sing Christmas carols. The hamster choir takes on a number of festive tunes including 'Jingle Bells' and 'Joy to the World.'

05. Cut the Rope: Holiday

Gift (free)

This edition of the Cut the Rope series , in which players must help the creature Om Nom find food by cutting the rope at the right time to guide food into his mouth, gets a festive makeover. This latest edition includes candy, Christmas trees and added Om Nom animations.

06. Paper Flakes

($0.99)

Create your very own paper flakes with this snow-themed application. Once players have created their own flakes they can watch them fall down the screen in the blizzard setting, and share their artistic creations with friends.

07. Starbucks Cup Magic

This free application from coffee chain Starbucks enables users to scan the holiday characters on Starbucks' 'Red Cups', bags of Christmas Blends and at in-store locations and then watch the characters come to life. The app also provides information on special in-store holiday offers.

08. A Charlie Brown Christmas

($6.99)

Charlie Brown from Peanuts comes to life in this animated interactive holiday tale which features dialogue from the original 1965 animated series.

09. SantasVillage

(free)

Players of SantasVillage must assist Father Christmas in his efforts to build a bigger and better Christmas village; however the evil Grumpkins are out to thwart his plans.

10. Super Mega Worm Vs Santa

($0.99)

Those who aren't feeling the holiday spirit this year can play as Wojira the worm as it eats its way through Santa's little helpers over the course of 15 levels in a quest to cause destruction and become the Super Mega Worm.
