It seems even Apple CEO Tim Cook is swayed away by the potential which lies in Virtual Reality. During an earnings call on Tuesday, he responded to a question about VR suggesting its got real potential. When asked whether the technology is a "geeky niche or something that can go mainstream" during a Q&A session, he responded: "I don't think it's a niche. It's really cool. It has some interesting applications."
Cook's thoughts about virtual reality comes at a time when the first consumer version of these headsets are about to reach the end user. Facebook's Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive are expected to launch in the first quarter of the year, and the PlayStation VR should arrive during the first half of 2016.
Cook however did not mention whether Apple is working on a VR headset of its own. Though there's no denying that the company is interested in VR. The iPhone-maker acquired augmented reality technology firm Metaio last May, while in 2013 it bought PrimeSense - the company that offered expertise to develop Microsoft's Kinect camera.
