Huawei plans to make same, old wireless charging interesting with lasers

We have heard about wired charging and wireless charging till date. While in the past couple of years these have seen a good growth in terms of tech and speed. But what’s next? Is wireless charging enough for everything? Huawei doesn’t think so as it plans to use laser for charging products in future. Yes, it’s still a form of wireless charging but this time it is using a fancier method. The major benefit here is that multiple users will be able to charge their devices using a single wireless module. This is any day better than keeping the device on the wireless Qi charger all the time.

Huawei has added that this tech can be used for medium- and long-distance charging of devices, let it be a smartphone or a drone. While this is as convenient as it gets, the real question here will be the amount of charge one will loose in a medium or long distance charging.

As mentioned in the patent filed by Huawei, the laser wireless charging solution also has a safety feature (obviously) that can detect eyes in laser’s path and disables charging so the damage is not done.

As reported by Android Authority, the handsets would need a receptor to support laser wireless charging system. Also, the firm says it is yet to see at how much speed can the smartphones be charged – all of which indicates that this tech is yet to reach the masses. However, Huawei has given a vague time frame. “It is estimated to likely be in phones two to three generations from now,” Huawei told the news website.
