Twitter users need to follow a few steps to share specific tweets with their contacts through the share button. It opens up a tray of apps that allows users to share the tweet link via Gmail, WhatsApp, Instagram, or any other application available on your phone. But now, Twitter is testing a new feature to share your tweets quickly with just a tap to your contacts - it is the WhatsApp share button. Twitter users will be able to share tweets with their contacts and groups on WhatsApp by just tapping on the new button. However, this will be for Android users only.

Twitter India confirmed via Tweet, "some of you might see a WhatsApp Share icon and if you do, let us know what you think." In another post, Twitter India agrees that Twitter is testing the WhatsApp Share icon. Techcrunch informed that a WhatsApp share button will replace the currently available share button under every tweet. Right now, it offers different options such as bookmarking, sending via Direct Message, copy link to Tweet and optio to share to other social media platforms. The new WhatsApp icon will just replace the share icon without changing its functionality.

However, it is not surprising while looking at the popularity of the instant messaging application WhatsApp in India. Currently, the app has more than 400 million users in India, which is widely used for text, sharing photos and videos, video calling and much more. Through the new WhatsApp sharing button, Twitter is trying to expand its reach to WhatsApp. Also, Twitter is not the first social network to bring the “share to WhatsApp” button in India. Earlier, ShareChat had introduced a similar button to make the sharing easy.

“Starting today, we are rolling out a new experiment exclusively in India – an important market for us. We are replacing the share icon on Tweets with the WhatsApp icon for the majority of people who use Twitter on Android in the country, so sharing their favorite or noteworthy Tweets is easy even beyond Twitter, making the experience more open, accessible, and holistic for them,” TechCrunch quoted Shirish Andhare, director and product head, Twitter India as saying
