Reports double down on mini-LED display tech for upcoming Apple iPad Pro, M1-level power

As per recent rumors, it has been mentioned that Apple might be launching new iPad Pro as soon as next month. It has also been rumored that the new device will be powered by A14X Bionic, which will be based on the A14 chipset that powers the iPhone 12 series. However, a new report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman states that the iPad chipset will be more powerful than what we expected.

According to Gurman, the upcoming iPad Pro’s chipset will be almost as good as the in house M1 silicon that is currently powering the latest MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and the Mac Mini. In case you're unaware, the chipset was launched last year in November and has 16 million transistors, eight-core CPU and eight graphics cores. It is also the first 5nm architecture chipset used in a smartphone.

Gurman, in his latest video, adds that the 2021 iPad Pro may look similar to its current iteration.

He mentioned that the new device will feature mini-LED display tech. This might make the tablet slightly thicker but will deliver improved brightness and better contrast ratios. He added that the iPad Pro coming next month will be 5G-ready and will support both sub-6Ghz and mmWave networks. One can also expect better cameras.

As for the upcoming iPhones, Gurman said in the video that this year's upcoming handsets, tipped as iPhone 13 or the iPhone 12s, might have the same design as the current iPhone 12 models and can include an in-display fingerprint sensor.

This comes a few days after a report by Digitimes stated that the Taiwanese company Ennostar will begin production of mini-LED backlight units of the upcoming 12.9-inch iPad Pro in the first quarter or second quarter of this year.
