New report doubles down on mini-LED iPad, MacBook launching this year

Doubling down on the Mini-LED iPad Pro and MacBook rumours, a new report by Digitimes has stated that the Taiwanese company Ennostar will begin production of mini-LED backlight units of the upcoming 12.9-inch iPad Pro in the first quarter or second quarter of this year. For those unaware, Ennostar is a company that was jointly established by LED-related manufacturers Epistar and Lexstar Electronics just last month.

It has been already rumored that Apple might launch the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro with mini-LED backlighting in the first half of this year. And it looks like Epistar might be the exclusive supplier of the mini-LED chips, according to the report.

There have also been rumors indicating that the new iPad Pro may launch in the first quarter of this year, which indeed means that there might be one coming as soon as next month. Preliminary reports state that the 12.9-inch iPad Pro might feature a faster A14X chipset and may also support 5G networks. It is not for sure if Apple plans to introduce the new 11-inch iPad Pro around the same time considering the majority of the rumors are happening around the 12.9-inch iPad Pro.

Apple is also set to adopt its mini-LED backlighting for future MacBook laptops, which is said to be revealed in the second half of this year. According to Apple analyst Ming Chi-Kuo, 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models may launch in the second half of this year with a new design.

Also rumoured is that that the devices may bring back the HDMI port and SD card reader, and can also remove the Touch Bar. Moreover, it is rumored to bring classic magsafe charging back with the breakaway power cable.
