Tata Nexon EV fire fiasco: This is what Tata Motors and OLA CEO say

Tata Nexon EV fire fiasco has shocked EV enthusiasts in the country, especially those own and drive the Nexon EV on a daily basis. For those who have no idea on this incident, a Tata Nexon EV recently caught fire while being stationary in Vasai, a Mumbai Suburb. A video of the incident was shared on social media, showing the EV catching fire and firemen trying to douse the flames. After the incident caught attention, EV fans and the general public demanded answers from Tata Motors on the incident. The company has now come up with a statement.

In a statement to the media, Tata Motors says, “A detailed investigation is currently being conducted to ascertain the facts of the recent isolated thermal incident that is doing the rounds on social media. We will share a detailed response after our complete investigation. We remain committed to the safety of our vehicles and their users. This is a first incident after more than 30,000 EVs have cumulatively covered over 100 million km across the country in nearly 4 years.”

OLA CEO comments on the Nexon EV fire

Additionally, OLA CEO Bhavish Agarwal, whose company, OLA Electric, was also involved in the same kind of issue a few months ago after the Ola S1 Pro scooters, made a statement on the Nexon EV fire case. Agarwal in a social media post says that EV fires are bound to happen and that is an issue with internal combustion engine vehicles as well. “EV fires will happen. Happens in all global products too. EV fires are much less frequent than ICE fires,” says Agarwal in the post.

The Ola S1 Pro scooters were in the news a couple of months ago due to fire incidents. A popular video on social media showed an Ola scooter going up in flames when parked under the sun. However, the scooter was also in news for various other issues related to software bugs, one of which led to the vehicle reversing at various high speeds.
