Windows 10 updates are pretty much useless, say IT professionals

A recent survey has revealed that most IT professionals find Microsoft’s biannual Windows 10 updates to be pretty useless. The survey was conducted by Susan Bradley who is a network consultant and writer for Askwoody.com.

According to reports, the survey found that almost 60% of administrators think that the updates are “rarely useful” at best. This opinion comes from individuals who are in charge of Windows 10 upkeep in their respective organisations.

The survey interviewed 500 people out of whom only 20% felt that Windows 10 updates were of some value. Another 22% were indifferent to Microsoft’s efforts.

Microsoft drops an update once every Spring and in Autumn each year and the latest of that lot was the Windows 10 version 2004.

As reported by Techradar, each of these Windows 10 builds receives support for 18 months after launch. When that cycle is over, admins must upgrade to the latest version to ensure they get important security and feature updates via patches.

The regular updates deliver new features to make the Windows 10 UI work better and also beefs up security. However, it seems like IT professionals don’t see any importance in this.

One of the respondents of the survey called these updates mostly bells, whistles and window dressing and said that no fundamental problems were tackled.

Another IT professional said that they didn’t have a clue as to why Microsoft thinks some new features are worth anyone’s time.

Some others were of the opinion that the regular cycle actually works against Microsoft since they are forced to stay on schedule with their updates irrespective of their merit.

One of the survey respondents suggested that Microsoft should focus on more useful features like upgraded File Explorer and a Start Menu that always works.
