Instagram had introduced auto-generated captions for videos and reels on the platform a few months back. According to the company, the addition of captions to the videos will make Instagram more accessible for people who are hearing challenged. Moreover, the feature is even useful for those who prefer watching videos on social media without sound and yet be fully able to understand exactly what is going on. This is a great help for social media creators! Earlier, creators had to manually transcribe captions for Instagram videos. That's no longer the case! Creators, as well as viewers, can enable captions easily.

During the time of the announcement of the feature, Instagram had confirmed that the new live caption feature will be available in 17 different languages. A TechCrunch report has listed all these languages which include English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Arabic, Vietnamese, Italian, German, Turkish, Russian, Thai, Tagalog, Urdu, Malay, Hindi, Indonesian and Japanese. The company mentioned that it will roll out more languages.

How to turn Instagram's auto-generated captions On or Off

Step 1:

You will need to create a new Instagram post on your account. 

Step 2:

Then select a video from your gallery or you can record a new one.

Step 3:

Now, apply filters and trim the video as necessary. Then select Next.

Step 4:

Go to the Advanced settings.

Step 5:

Here, below the Accessibility option, you will have the option to enable Show captions. Note that these settings will also apply to all videos in the future.

Step 6:

In case you don’t want to keep the live captions with Instagram videos, then go back to this option and select the option to disable it.
