'Far Cry 3' trailer introduces four-player co-op

Far Cry 3's four player cooperative mode brings together four murderous cruise ship passengers, an absent captain, and a load of missing cash.

Far Cry 3's four player cooperative mode brings together four murderous cruise ship passengers, an absent captain, and a load of missing cash.

Crooked cop Leonard, Russian hitman Mikhail, ex-soldier Tisha, and Callum, the ship's Scottish cook show no compunction in unleashing a barrage of strong language and stronger weaponry upon the rest of the boat's human cargo, blasting their way to safety before commandeering a speedboat to a nearby tropical island.

The promised four-player mode appears to offer a separate campaign as compared to the game's loopy narrative, though it will take place on the same archipelago, and there's no ruling out a dose of crossover action between the two chunks of content.

Also confirmed is two-player splitscreen as part of the deal, and so Far Cry 3's co-op moves past comparisons to the zombie survival of Left 4 Dead and on to fellow September release Borderlands 2 -- another colorful, madcap first person shooter with four player co-op and optional two player split, plenty of enemies, and the promise of gold at the end of the rainbow.
