And thanks to all the leaks, we now know what these basic iPhone 14 models will bring to the table.

The situation isn’t looking that good though! Apple brings bare minimum upgrades to the standard iPhone every year ever since the iPhone XR. While the upgrades are notable, they are not big enough to warrant an upgrade to someone already on the previous generation model. And the same is going to happen with the iPhone 14, which will have even lesser differences than the iPhone 13.

Pricey Affair!

Just like every year’s iPhone, this year’s iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will be a pricey affair for many. Analysts suggest that the standard iPhone 14 may carry the same sort of pricing as the iPhone 13’s launch price, which could be almost $799. With the absence of an iPhone 14 Mini, the starting price of the $699 will no longer be possible. Its replacement, which is the iPhone 14 Max, is said to start from $899, which will bridge the gap between the standard and Pro variant. Hence, get ready to shell more money on this year’s iPhone upgrade.

Same old design!

The iPhone 13 brought a mildly tweaked design and rumours suggest the iPhone 14 series is going to keep it. That means the same diagonally arranged rear cameras and the smaller notch on the display. The flat sides, front and rear will also remain. The iPhone 14 Max will be of the same size as the iPhone 13 Pro Max but have the same design elements as the standard iPhone 14. Expect these models to be a bit heavier since Apple could be upgrading the battery.

Display getting an upgrade

The iPhone 14 Max is tipped to get a faster 90Hz refresh rate display! Yes, a smoother display on the bigger iPhone finally! This could be a saviour considering all of its Android rivals now have 120Hz variable refresh rate displays as standard. It remains to be seen if this gets a variable refresh rate tech. There’s nothing on the standard iPhone 14’s display.

No Performance upgrade?

Surprisingly, yes! Rumours suggest that Apple could reuse the A15 Bionic chip from the iPhone 13 in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max. Only the Pro variants will get the new A16 Bionic chip. Not that the A15 is slow by any means but buying a new iPhone with last year’s chip is something we haven’t witnessed in the past. Is this due to the chip shortage situation across the globe? Come on Apple, give us the A16 chip on the new iPhones.

No upgrade for rear cameras but selfie lovers rejoice!

Based on the rumours, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max will have the same 12MP dual camera setup from the iPhone 13 with minor tweaks. It is the front camera that is said to gain a new Autofocus functionality as well as a bigger aperture lens. This should help in improving the quality of selfies.

Battery could see some upgrades

The iPhone 14 Max could bring the same kind of battery capacity as the iPhone 13 Pro Max, thereby making it possibly one of the best battery life phones. Nothing is known about the iPhone 14’s battery life.
