Pranksters are using Apple’s Group FaceTime to annoy users, and there’s no solution

In the past few days, several customers have taken it to the Apple Support Community to complain about a large number of spam and prank calls that they have been receiving on FaceTime. What’s worse is that they cannot even block these numbers. According to a report by Ars Technica, this has been on the rise since past few weeks. The people who are behind the spam call, apparently use Group FaceTime and call some 30-31 users at a time. Also reported is that when someone hangs the call, they get a call from a different number immediately, which makes it annoying.

“Since then I’ve received about 7 more calls throughout the day,” said one of the users in the Apple Support Community. “When I realized what it was, I hung up and it called back 11 more times,” added another one. Some have even taken it to Reddit to talk about these FaceTime prank calls.

“The high volume of callbacks appears to be the result of other people receiving the call dialing everyone back when the initial call fails shortly after answering. As more and more people receive follow-on calls, they too begin making callbacks,” states a Reddit post.

And when it comes to blocking, you cannot block multiple numbers at once. Since FaceTime is designed to work like regular phone calls, you can only block one Apple ID at a time. And as unfortunate as it sounds, there’s nothing much that users can do. If they are ok with not FaceTiming someone, they can disable the feature completely.

Here’s hoping Apple adds more filters in FaceTime calls or comes up with any solution for that matter.
