WhatsApp rival Telegram allows to edit messages after sending them

Telegram seems to finally have an edge over everyone's favourite app WhatsApp, which is owned by Facebook.

Today over a billion active users on WhatsApp cannot edit messages after they have sent it to a person or have shared it in a group but Telegram in a blog post announced that its users, currently 100 million monthly users, can edit messages after sending them.

"Farewell to typos! Starting today, you can edit the text of your messages after sending them. This works across all Telegram chats, including groups and one-on-one conversations," the WhatsApp rival said in the post.

To edit a sent text, Users can simply tap and hold on a message, then press 'Edit'. "If you're on desktop, press the up arrow button to edit your last message. The messages will display a small 'edited' label so that it's easy to tell which were altered," it added.

In addition to edited texts, Telegram also said that it was adding a 'mentions' feature. "Mentioning other people in groups is handy since it sends them a notification about your message even if they muted the group. Starting today, you can mention any members in a group - even if they don't have a username. Just type the @ symbol and select whoever you would like to address," the company explained.

It has also recently announced it now has a 100 million monthly active users, with 350,000 new users signing up every day, delivering 15 billion messages daily. The addition of the new features could see the user base swell.
