Smart TVs are very common these days and particularly over the last year, people have upgraded their home entertainment options massively. However, there are also people out there who are perfectly content with their non-smart TVs. But what happens when you want to watch something on Netflix on a non-smart TV? You can actually do it. Here's how…

How to watch Netflix on your non-smart TV

Don't be bummed if you don't have a smart TV. Netflix's casting feature is here to save you. With this feature, you can cast the screen from your smartphone to your TV and watch whatever you want, including HD quality content. You can also fast forward, rewind, pause, or change the audio or subtitle settings from your mobile device.

Here's what you need to do to start casting:

- Launch the Netflix app on your mobile device and sign in to your Netflix account.

- Once you're signed in, select the 'cast' icon on the upper right corner of your screen.

- Select the device you would like to cast on.

- Find a film or a series you love. Simply press “play”.

Admittedly, you will need a TV that does support screen casting but you do not need internet access on the TV or any additional hardware, or plans.

You can also access Netflix from gaming consoles like the Sony PlayStation 4, Sony PlayStation 5, Xbox One. And via dongles like the Amazon Fire Stick, Google Chromecast, or Airtel Xtreme stick, and set-top boxes including JioFiber, Airtel, ACT Fibernet, and Hathway.

For first-time Netflix users on smart TVs, here's a refresher

Most smart TVs today come with an in-built Netflix app that can either be found on the main menu or the home screen. If it is not there, you can also download the app directly from the smart TV app store. In some cases, there is also a dedicated Netflix button on your remote that will direct you to the app with one click. What next? Follow these steps…

- Make sure your TV is connected to the internet.

- Launch the Netflix app using the Netflix button on your remote or from the main menu.

- Sign in to your account using the on-screen keyboard

- Use the arrow buttons on the TV remote to navigate and find the film or series that suits your mood.

- Press "Select" or "Enter" and stream away.
