The Mars Orbiter Mission was designed to enter the red planet's orbit and conduct various sets of observational studies about the planet. Now, the Mangalyaan-2 mission will also be designed for Mars orbit insertion, however, it will conduct in-depth interplanetary studies too.

Data and experience collected from the ISRO’s first Mars mission will help scientists plan, design, and conduct interplanetary missions like Mangalyaan-2. The second Mars mission will now be able to study the planet’s interplanetary dust, and the Martian atmosphere and environment.
