Poll: Could Zuckerberg’s visit to India alter the net neutrality debate?

With over 130 million users, India is Facebook’s largest market outside the United States. For more than a year, Facebook has been trying to push its free package of basic internet services called Free Basics (formerly Internet.org) in the country, billing it as an initiative to bring internet access to people in developing countries who can’t afford to pay for data.

With over 130 million users, India is Facebook's largest market outside the United States. For more than a year, Facebook has been trying to push its free package of basic internet services called Free Basics (formerly Internet.org) in the country, billing it as an initiative to bring internet access to people in developing countries who can't afford to pay for data.

Critics fear that internet.org will promote only Facebook and its partners, while sites that aren't registered with the service will take a hit. They also argue that users will not have unfettered access to all segments of the worldwide web and will be restricted only to sites that have signed on for the Free Basics platform.
