10 things you need to know about the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge

Samsung launched their flagship smartphones Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge in India on Tuesday. Priced at ₹48,900 and ₹56,900, the phones go on sale just a week after their international date of March 11. For now, you can book the Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge and receive a Gear VR headset as a token of appreciation.

The company however, did not mention the Gear 360 at the even and we expect it to launch much later in the year. For now, here is a breakdown of the Samsung flagship's stack up.

Value for money

The Samsung Galaxy S7 with a 5.1-inch display costs ₹7,000 more than the Apple iPhone 6s with a 4.7-inch display. The Galaxy S7 Edge has a curved display that folds over the edges and costs as much as an Apple iPhone 6s Plus with the same screen size but lower resolution. However, the phones take the lead as the base models of the phones offer twice as much sorage as the iPhones'.

Battery

The Galaxy S7 has a 3,000 mAh battery while the S7 Edge has a 3,600 mAh one. Samsung claims that you can watch an entire season of Game of Thrones on a single charge. A bigger battery also means more web browsing time, gaming and photography -- all of which Samsung has improved on.

Camera

The camera on S7 and Edge don't bulge like its predecessor did, but take on the iPhone 6s in terms of performance. The larger pixels equipped with dual-pixel tech make sure that the Galaxy flagships take great pictures and focus faster even in low light.

The camera software developed with the help of Samsung's Research facility in India, lets you take motion photos, similar to Live Photos on an iPhone 6s or 6s Plus.

Memory

With the Galaxy S7 phones, Samsung wanted to make amends on the shortcomings of S6. So, this time, they turned one of the SIM-slots into a hybrid one the also functions as a memory card slot. So, you can either have two SIM cards or one SIM card and a memory card(up to 200 GB).

Liquid Cooling

The increasing power of smartphones means their need for cooling has become increasingly important. That's why Samsung has shoved in a more than capable liquid cooling system that is inspired from the technology used in rockets.

Display

The S7 and S7 Edge has an alway-on AMOLED display which lets you customise the information that's always visible on the phone.

The screen on the S7 Edge folds over the sides making it a great way to pull up live news feed, shortcuts or performs quick tasks.

The bookings for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are open and everyone who books a device will receive a Gear VR headset. The sale is set to begin at 12 am on March 18. And with Samsung teaming up with Facebook for VR content, that isn't an easy deal to ignore.
