Google Cloud named global leader in cloud data analytics in Asia Pacific region

Google’s cloud computing service called the Google Cloud was named as a global leader in the field of cloud data computing in the Asia Pacific region.

IDC MarketScape, evaluated the top cloud services in the Asia Pacific region and it deemed Google Cloud as the global leader in the area of cloud data analytics. The research firm noted that Google Cloud is built for cloud native agile and outcome-based digital innovation and product development, and is steadily expanding its customer base from digital natives to very large organisations that are actively working to become Intelligent Enterprises.

In addition to Google Cloud, the research firm also named Amazon’s Amazon Web Services and Oracle’s cloud service global leaders in the Asia Pacific region. Microsoft’s Azure, on the other hand, stood somewhere in between being a global leader and a major player in the market.

The research firm in its report noted that Google Cloud offers several services that make it one of the top cloud service providers in the region. Firstly, the company’s Cloud Data Fusion service has over 200 plug-ins and APIs that are interoperable with heterogeneous data storage products that make it easy to integrate with products across and beyond the organisation. It also has several layer-based solutions that are built for serverless consumption to allow organisations to start with no administrative overhead and pay per second for the compute resources that have been consumed. Additionally, customers can choose from three pricing tiers: flat rate, flex slots, and pay per query as per their requirements.

This coupled with the wider availability of Google's cloud and data analytics platform gives the company a better control over its hardware and network infrastructure. It also gives the company a complete control over the cost of services.

In addition to highlighting Google Cloud’s strength’s, which counts Australia Post, The Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ Bank), Singapore Press Holdings, Tokopedia, News Corp, HSBC, Gojek, and AirAsia as its customers, IDC MarketScape also mentioned some of the challenges that the service is facing.

The research firm noted that Google is hiring aggressively in Asia-Pacific region to beef up sales, channel networks, and field service and support teams. This, the firm believes, will be critical for the company to closely engage with customers on the ground and convert mindshares into market shares.
