Google has a new tool called Threadit that lets you send TikTok-like videos for work

Google has a new tool for you that’s pretty much like TikTok, but for work. Threadit is supposed to make remote working easier and more efficient and allows users to send small recorded videos, like Instagram Reels or TikTok, to team members. You can use this to communicate any progress you’ve made on work or a project you might be working on with other team people. Google’s new tool is available on the browser and as a Chrome extension.

Google considers videos to be a better way of communicating with other team members, particularly for those who might be struggling to put their point across via mails or text messages.

Threadit also does away with the need to host live meetings to communicate via video and this will allow employees across time zones to work according to times that suit them instead of having to stick to one time zone.

“I'd send a Threadit to my colleagues in Japan during my normal working hours in Seattle; they'd respond during the hours that worked for them in Tokyo. Threadit helped us feel like we were working together in person, even though we were responding at different times from across the world — it built connections that email couldn't. The best part? Nobody had to get up early or stay up late,” Keller Smith, Founder and General Manager, Threadit, explained in a blog post.

Google explained in its blog that Threadit will help you say and show more with a video message as compared to what you can convey on email or chat. And you also do not need to do it live.

You can use Threadit to show other teammates how much you have progressed on a project, ask questions and also ask for feedback without having to coordinate schedules. The best thing is that it can do away with the need to host live virtual meetings for small discussions. A feature like this also gives users more time to think, work in a more focused way and if a meeting eventually needs to be set up, it turns out to be more efficient.

Threadit also allows users to record a few short clips and stitch them together to form one video message, you can also record your screen. Once your video is ready, you can share it with others via a link and whoever you share it with can reply to the video message once they are ready. All the responses will show up as one conversation.

Google said in the blog that they built Threadit while remotely working last year and the team at Area 120, which is Google’s incubator division, was behind it. The aim was to make remote working more efficient and easier.
