Google Photos gets a new update on iOS which now adds support for Live Photos -- the new photo format introduced with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.
With the update, users can now save, view and organise Live Photos with the app. Once your Live Photos have been uploaded to Google Photos on iOS, users will be able to use the Force Touch feature on any image and see them come to life, just as it would while viewing it from iOS 9's native Photo Gallery.
Images with support for the format also get designated with a 'Live Photo' icon at the top of the screen, essentially to remind users that it's not a standard image.
Google Photos was made a standalone app last year and since then has already racked up more than 100 million monthly active users. The service essentially offers unlimited storage space where users can back-up, organise and search all their photos and videos.

The company last month announced its plans to shut down Picasa, primarily to focus more on Google Photos. Google said that time that data stored on Picasa web albums will be automatically transferred to a user's Google Photos account starting May 1, 2016.
