YouTube’s TikTok rival Shorts goes global

TikTok is one of the most popular short video sharing platforms in the world. It’s rapid growth and popularity prompted other social media companies to launch their competitors to this service. While Facebook launched Reels on Instagram , Snapchat launched Spotlight and Google launched Shorts on YouTube. The feature first made a debut in India last year. Gradually , the company expanded its presence to 26 countries across the globe in the beginning of this year. The list includes the US , Canada , UK among others. Now , YouTube is making its TikTok rival available in more countries across the globe.

The Verge reports that the YouTube Shorts is now available in “more than 100 countries across the globe” wherein YouTube is available. With YouTube Shorts being available in more and more countries , shorter videos are likely to be available on the video-sharing platform more frequently. For the uninitiated , YouTube Shorts lets users create short-form videos that are up to 60 seconds long. The feature is available in both YouTube Android and iOS-based apps.

YouTube users can record a Short by following these steps:

Step 1: Tap on the Plus icon and then tap on the camera icon.

Step 2: To make your Short longer than 15 seconds , tap 15 above the record button to record up to 60 seconds.

Step 3: You can change the speed of the video by tapping on the Speed button.

Step 4: To record a clip , hold the capture button or tap it to start recording and then again to stop.

Step 5: Tap the Done button to preview and enhance your video.

Step 6: Tap the NEXT button to add details to your video.

Step 7: Once you are done adding details Tap UPLOAD to finish.

It is worth noting that while YouTube is experimenting with shorter video formats , TikTok , the social media platform that started the trend of short videos is testing long-form videos. It recently tripled its maximum video length to three minutes.
