MWC 2021 Samsung Event: No Galaxy Watch, but here is what the company has done

Samsung MWC 2021 live virtual event has not really led to a big announcement. No, the Galaxy Watch was not unveiled today. But the company has gone and shown everyone what its new UI (One UI Watch software) will look like and do, or at least, it gave tantalising hints about it. It also showed off what a partnership with Google may well bring for the watch - smooth and slick operation. The launch announcement may come later during the summer. Mobile World Congress 2021 was perhaps not a big enough stage for the announcements considering it is all a virtual event.

Samsung, in its glitzy, yet down to earth video live coverage provided the first look at its new One UI Watch software. In fact, this is a part of its new Google linked new unified smartwatch platform. However, as the Verge said it should be clear here that "what Samsung is showing of One UI Watch won’t be what all smartwatches built on the new unified Google / Samsung platform look like — it’s an added layer on top specifically for Samsung devices."

The idea is to bring full, seamless interconnectivity to Samsung's hardware and software.

Among the more prominent features of the UI was that the Settings have been redesigned and are looking more like those on phones. What that points to is if you give an instruction on the phone, the same will sync with the Watch.

Some manually intensive and boring processes you have to follow on current Tizen based watches has been dispensed with. This especially applies to apps. So, if you load an app on a phone, it will load for watch too. If it is compatible, that is.
