Apple Watch Series 7 misses out on a processor upgrade (Apple)

Apple took wraps off the Watch Series 7 at its California Streaming event. It launched the wearable alongside the new iPad, iPad mini and iPhone 13 lineup. The new Watch Series 7 comes with a number of updates including a bigger display, thinner bezels, and more. Moreover, Apple has brought a full keyboard inside the Apple Watch Series 7. Users can either tap or slide to type and the keyboard will predict the user's next word using machine learning algorithms. However, it misses out on one front. Apple didn’t upgrade the processor of Watch Series 7 from the Apple Watch Series 6.

During the Apple Watch Series 7 presentation, Apple didn’t say a word about the processor details. Usually, Apple boasts about performance upgrades from previous years in terms of percentage and numbers. However, this year, the company didn’t even mention the processor. If you go to Apple’s website, there’s no mention whatsoever about the chip that powers Apple Watch Series 7.

As 9To5Mac reports,, developer Steve Troughton-Smith has confirmed based on the latest version of Xcode (the platform that lets developers create apps for Apple devices) that Apple Watch Series 7 has the same CPU as last year’s Apple Watch Series 6. Both the wearables are powered by the “t8301” CPU, which is the codename for the processor found in the “Apple S6” System in a Package (SiP).

Talking about the Apple Watch Series 7, it comes with new watch faces including a new modular face and it offers 18 hours of battery life. It also comes with IPX6 dust resistant coating and WR50 water resistant coating. Further, the Apple Watch Series 7 features support for fast charging technology. The device starts at $399 and it will go on sale in the fall this year. Apple hasn’t revealed its India pricing and availability details yet.

The Apple Watch Series 7 features just 1.7mm thin bezels that are 40% thinner than the previous generation. It also has softer edges.
