Solar Eclipse 2022: Today, April 30, marks the first solar eclipse, or surya grahan, of the year. Although it is a partial eclipse, meaning the entire solar disk will not be covered by the moon, it is still a huge global event because multiple regions and countries of the world will get to experience it first-hand. But sadly, India is not one of those countries that will get to experience the surya grahan through the naked eye. So, if you live in India, the sun will shine brightly for you today. However, if you are an astronomy enthusiast and want to spectate this incredibly rare event, there is one way to do so. Read on to find out how to watch the solar eclipse online. Do not miss it.

Solar Eclipse 2022: Surya grahan in India

The partial eclipse of April 30 is a worldwide phenomenon but its visibility is limited to a few regions. These include the Antarctica land-mass region, south and southwest region of South America (Chile, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia and parts of Brazil) as well as regions in Pacific and Atlantic ocean (USA, southwestern regions of Europe, and western parts of Africa). But this is not the only major event India is set to miss out on. On May 16, a total lunar eclipse will also take place which will not be visible from India.

But just because the solar eclipse will not be visible from India, does not mean you need to give up on it. There are ways to watch it and one of the easiest ways is to watch the surya grahan online.

Solar eclipse date and time

The solar eclipse will begin at 12:15 AM on May 1, 2022 and will end at 4:07 AM. The peak in India will take place at around 2:11 AM. However, due to it being night time, it will not be visible.

A solar eclipse is an astronomical phenomenon which occurs on a new Moon day. New Moon is essentially when the Sun and the Moon are aligned with the Moon in between the Sun and the Earth. As the lunar disk covers the view of the Sun, the Earth experiences a brief darkness during the daytime and is known as a solar eclipse.

When is the next solar eclipse

The next solar eclipse of the year will take place on October 25. Luckily, this will be visible in India and Indian citizens will get to witness this astronomical rarity happening with their eyes. Although, it is recommended to never look at a solar eclipse with naked eyes as it can damage them.

All you need to do is go on the platform at around 12:15 AM tonight and search for “Solar eclipse 2022”.

Once the search results come in, go to filters and click on ‘Live’ under the features option. This will help you see all the Live videos taking place and you can choose from the list.

Step 5:

If you want a close up telescopic view of the solar eclipse, NASA will be broadcasting the event on its official channel. The video is not scheduled right now but it should appear in a few hours. Keep an eye out for that.
