Instead of keeping cash or making payments in cash, people now prefer making online payments. Online transactions have gained pace in India mainly after the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic. There are several mobile apps using which you can make online payment by following a few simple steps. Some of these online payment apps are Google Pay, Paytm, PhonePe, among others. Online banking apps can also be used for this purpose. From making payments, recharges, to making purchases, a lot of services can be availed with the help of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) based apps. Unfortunately, with almost everything going online, digital frauds too have increased. With this in mind, the State Bank of India (SBI) has asked people to check the UPI ID while making transactions to ensure it is an official one.

Taking precautions while making online payment is a must to avoid any kind of financial loss. Banks have been constantly informing people about the measures following which they can stay safe from online frauds. Recently the State Bank of India (SBI) took to its Twitter handle to say, "Always remember to check the UPI ID while making transactions to ensure it is an official one. Stay Alert & #SafeWithSBI."

It can be noted that this is not the first time when SBI has asked people to make online payments safely. Here we list a number of online payment tips that will keep you from losing money.

Step 1:

UPI PIN is required only for transfer of money and not for receiving.

Step 2:

Always verify the mobile number, name and UPI ID before sending any money.

Step 3:

Never share UPI PIN with anyone.

Step 4:

The scanner should preferably be used for fund transfer.

Step 5:

Do not seek resolution from other than official sources.

Step 6:

Use App's help section for any payment or technical issue and in case of any discrepancy seek resolution through Bank's Complaint Resolution portal.
