Apple has said it will replace the camera on a limited number of iPhone 6 Plus over blurry photos because of faulty hardware.

In a post on its website, the Cupertino company said: "Apple has determined that, in a small percentage of iPhone 6 Plus devices, the iSight camera has a component that may fail causing your photos to look blurry.

"The affected units fall into a limited serial number range and were sold primarily between September 2014 and January 2015."

Apple, whose shares opened at their lowest this year on Monday, said a small component in the affected iSight back camera may fail.

It said it will replace the camera free of charge if it takes blurry photos and falls into a particular serial number range. Eligible serial numbers can be checked on Apple's website.

The tech giant did not disclose what part of the camera was causing the blurry photos. Users experiencing the problem have speculated it may be in part due to the moving optical image stabiliser of the iPhone 6 Plus - a feature absent from the smaller iPhone 6.

Apple customers have also found that the stabiliser can be affected when the iPhone 6 is enclosed in a metallic or magnetic case.
