Apple’s newest trademarks hint at something more than iPhone 12 handsets

Something more than iPhone 12 might be brewing up at Apple. The firm has filed a trademark application for the phrase ‘iPhone for Life’. Not that this phrase is new. It has been by overseas carriers and retailers to promote an offering similar to ‘iPhone Upgrade Program.’ The trademark that was filed earlier this year, might just be used to rebrand the ‘iPhone Upgrade Program’ or protect the phrase so resellers can use it. However, there’s no confirmation yet.

“The Hong Kong database shows that Apple filed for the trademark ‘iPhone for Life’ in early April 2020. I’ve never seen that trademark in the US market, but did find it in other countries, associated with foreign telecoms and Apple shops,” stated Patently Apple who spotted the trademark which has not been made public yet.

It has been reported that the trademark application is in two categories. While one is for retail sales, the other one is for finance arrangements.

While a lot needs to be revealed for now, we may get a better understanding of where this phrase will be used once Apple launches the rumoured iPhone 12 series on October 13.

This time, there could be a total of four iPhones in the series – iPhone 12, 12 Max, iPhone 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max. All are rumoured to feature OLED screens and Apple A14 Bionic processor. The ‘Pro’ models were previously said to come with 120Hz refresh rate screen but the tipsters and analysts later claimed that none of them will have a 120Hz refresh rate. However, all are said to feature OLED panels.
