A huge controversy has been sparked and it is about an accusation - Google creating God. It is all about experiments with artificial intelligence. It begs the question - is AI dangerous? A former Google executive Mo Gawdat, who saw a miracle of sorts, has shouted out a warning about the same. In fact, he goes on to say that with the current pace of development in AI, humanity is creating God! Elon Musk had hinted at the same a few months ago. Gawdat served at the Chief Business Officer at Google’s secretive Research and Development division, called Google X at the time.

Google has been at the forefront of developing AI based applications and Gawdat got to witness some of that behind the closed doors. In an interview with The Times, he warns of humanity creating AI that may cause a situation similar to what we saw in the 1991 Hollywood movie Terminator 2.

Google creating God!

Gawdat recalls a moment he witnessed during his time at the company a few years ago. At the time, Ai developers were collaborating with the Google X division on robotic arms. The researchers were trying to make the arms grab a ball. However, it was a kind of mission impossible. However, things changed and the arms actually managed to hold the ball.

Gawdat, however, was scared when he saw that multiple robotic arms were able to pick up the object and replicate the same with ease thereafter. "And I suddenly realised, this is really scary. Like we had those things for a week. And they're doing what children will take two years to do. And then it hit me that they are children. But very, very fast children,” says Gawdat.

"The reality is, we're creating God,” he added.

What is the danger to humanity?

Gawdat goes on to explain that AI could reach the point where it is at technological singularity. In layman’s English, it means that AI could become self sufficient and go out of control from humanity’s hands. This change would essentially be irreversible and we could face a situation similar to the ones portrayed in the Terminator movies
