Instagram has just empowered those of its users who have been, till now, shunted into the nether regions of the app - the ones stuck to their desktops. Instagram is undoubtedly one of the most popular photo-sharing platforms in the world and so, for some users not to be able to get use of 100% of its features, would definitely have been galling. While it does have a desktop-based interface, Instagram restricted its usage to viewing, liking and commenting posts. Other features, such as sharing posts or Reels or Stories has been restricted to Instagram’s mobile-based app. But, not anymore!

Facebook has now confirmed that it is indeed working on a feature that will let users access Instagram from their computers. “We know that many people access Instagram from their computer...To improve that experience, we’re now testing the ability to create a Feed post on Instagram with their desktop browser,” Instagram spokesperson Christine Pai said in a statement to Bloomberg.

Furthermore, The Verge’s Matt Navara has also shared screenshots demonstrating how such an interface would look like. The screenshots shared by Navarra show that Instagram’s desktop-based interface would be quite similar to its mobile-app based interface. When users upload an image or a video, they will get a screen that will enable them to choose the size of their post. Users can either choose to use the original size or they can choose to crop the image in a square with an aspect ratio of 1:1, Portrait with an aspect ratio of 4:5 or Landscape with an aspect ratio of 16:9.

When they click on the Next button, they will be greeted with a screen that lets them to pick a filter, just like the Instagram app. Clicking on the Edit menu next to the Filters button will let them add other details such as their location, description of the post and tags among other things.

It is worth noting that this is not the first time that reports have hinted towards the Facebook-owned photo-sharing app working on a feature that would enable users to use the app from their personal computers and desktops. Last month, another tipster who goes by the name Alessandro Paluzzi suggested something similar. But this time around, Facebook has confirmed that it is indeed working on such a feature.

That said, the company hasn’t shared a deadline as to when this feature will arrive. But we will keep an eye out for details and update you as soon as we hear something.
