If there is one thing all smartphone users can unanimously agree on, it is that getting spam calls can be really annoying. Picking up a seemingly important call only to be greeted with an automated voice or an agent trying to sell you something can be really frustrating. On top of that, spam calls can target your number multiple times a day, making even ignoring it a difficult task. If you're dealing with a similar situation, then do not worry. Your Android smartphone comes equipped with native features that can help both identify as well as get rid of spam calls. Read on to find out how to stop spam calls.

It should be noted that there are third-party applications like Truecaller which can both identify and block spam calls. However, to use the full range of their features, you often need to pay a subscription fee. On top of that, these apps store your phone number and other information in a cloud-based database which can make some users uncomfortable from the privacy perspective. So, if you do not want to use such apps, know how to manage spam calls natively.

How to identify spam calls on Android devices

There is an easy way for Android users to identify whether an unknown number is a spam call or a genuine call. This in itself can be a big relief as knowing if a call is spam can save you the time and hassle to go through an unpleasant conversation. And to turn on this feature, all you have to do is follow the following steps. Do note that this will not work below Android 12.

1. Open the dialer screen.

2. Tap the three vertical dots on the top right corner.

3. Go to settings and click on “Caller ID & spam” under Assistive.

4. Turn on the “See caller and spam ID” and “filter spam calls” options.

5. That's it. You have now both identified and filtered spam calls.

While this in itself should be enough, some spam calls might still slip out. You can manually block these numbers so they don't call you over and over. Do it this way.

How to block spam call numbers on Android devices

Step 1:

Click on the three dot vertical menu and enter the Settings menu from the dialer screen

Step 2:

Under ‘General’, tap on ‘Blocked numbers’.

Step 3:

From here, you can either block all calls from unidentified numbers or manually add a number to be blocked.

That's it. You have successfully gotten rid of spam calls.
