As per the support page, the new AirTags will be readable by other NFC-enabled iPhone or even Android phones when in Lost Mode.

A few hours ago, Apple just announced its first-ever Bluetooth tracker called AirTags. The device was in rumours since past few months and created a lot of buzz around it ever since. During the presentation, the iPhone maker talked at length about this new accessory and what tech it uses to get tracked by your iPhone. However, a piece of information that wasn’t revealed at the stage was that it is also compatible with Android phones.

As per the support page, the new AirTags will be readable by other NFC-enabled iPhone or even Android phones when in Lost Mode. “If you find an AirTag after hearing it make a sound, you can use any device that has NFC, such as an iPhone or Android phone, to see if its owner marked it as lost and help return it,” states the page.

This also means that if a person with an Android phone gets hold of your lost item with AirTags, it is possible to bring the device close to AirTags to see more information about the owner. The accessory will also provide a URL with a personalized message that you can add to the tracker using the Find My app.

Apple’s new AirTag are essentially small tracking tiles that feature Bluetooth connectivity and Ultra-Wideband (UWB) support that allow Apple’s devices to quickly calculate how far away the tracker is and inform the owner about their location. The presence of the UWB chip means that these trackers will provide more accurate results when used with the iPhone 11 and newer devices, which also feature a U1 ultra-wideband chip.

Apple says the AirTag will be available in one and four packs for 3190 and 10900, respectively, from apple.com and through Apple Authorised Resellers at the end of the month, while AirTag accessories like the Leather Key Ring in Saddle Brown, (PRODUCT)RED, and Baltic Blue for 3590 the Leather Loop in Saddle Brown and (PRODUCT)RED will retail for 3990.
