Your privacy and security on Facebook Messenger will soon get much stronger and this time, it is all about what people do with the chats they receive. Facebook Messenger will soon enable alert notifications for users when someone takes screenshots of their chats, just like Snapchat does it now. Currently, the notification was sent only when someone took a screenshot in ‘Vanish Mode.' But now this feature will be extended to all chats including the end-to-end encrypted chats. Meta in its official blog posts mentioned, “We think it's important that you are able to use encrypted chats and feel safe, so we want to keep you informed if anyone takes screenshots of your disappearing messages.” Once this feature will be rolled out, users will get an alert notification whenever someone will take a screenshot of their chats.

Facebook Messenger will get some more features

Additionally, Meta is also introducing a bunch of other features for Facebook Messenger users to make it more secure. The Messenger will get features like end-to-end encrypted Group Chats and Calls on Messenger that is also called ‘Secret Chat'. E2E encrypted means, these chats cannot be read by any other third-party, including Facebook. Meta-owned WhatsApp too offers this E2E encryption feature.

Facebook Messenger will also be introducing a typing indicator for encrypted 1:1 and group chats. Apart from these, Messenger GIFs and Sticker are now rolling out for a more feature rich chat experience in end-to-end encrypted chats. Users can now tap and hold on a message to bring up the reaction emojis to react to the message. They can also double tap on a message to like it.

Users will also be able to reply to specific messages in these chats by either long pressing or swiping to reply on that message. Further, users will also be able to forward a message by long pressing and clicking on an option for the same.

These features are already available on Meta owned photo sharing app Instagram Direct Messages. However, some of these features are expected to arrive on WhatsApp as well this year, while some are already available.

Some more features that Facebook Messenger will be getting are the option to edit videos before sending, save media as well as verified badge to help users identify authentic accounts. Notably, these features are available only on the latest version of the app.
