Delhi is now the city with world's most CCTV cameras in public places. The revelation was made by none other than Aam Aadmi Party co-founder and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. He indicated that it was reported that Delhi had beaten all the top world cities in terms of most number of CCTV cameras installed per square mile. In fact, India was far ahead of as many as seven cities in China - Shenzhen, Wuxi, Qingdao, Shanghai, Changsha, Wuhan and Xiamen. CM Kejriwal congratulated the officers and engineers concerned for achieving this milestone. "Feel proud to say that Delhi beats cities like Shanghai, NY (New York), London with most CCTV cameras per sq mile. Delhi has 1826 cameras, London has 1138 cameras per sq mile. My compliments to our officers and engineers who worked in mission mode n achieved it in such a short time." The report that Kejriwal had cited while saying Delhi has become world's No 1 city was by Forbes India. The report was actually on the most-surveilled cities of the world. Also read click here. However, arguably India's most cosmopolitan city, Mumbai, was on the 18th position with 157.4 CCTV cameras per square mile. The task to install CCTV cameras in Delhi is the responsibility of the Public Works Department (PWD) with the AAP government setting a target of around 2.8 lakh CCTV cameras. The entire job of covering the city will be done in two phases. PWD officials revealed that by December 2019, over 1,05,000 CCTV cameras had been installed in Delhi. AAP tok to Twitter too to post this: Delhi is now World's No. 1 City with most CCTV cameras per square mile!
