Apple 2023 event: After months of anticipation, Apple finally unveiled the iPhone 15 at the Wonderlust event on September 12. The in-person event is taking place at the Steve Jobs Theater in Apple Park, California, while also being live-streamed on Apple TV, the Apple Events website, and YouTube. The rumours about iPhone 15 began as soon as iPhone 14 was launched in September last year, and now the launch has taken place, bringing an end to a year’s round of leaks. Over the past few months, we’ve heard several possibilities, such as the USB Type-C port, Dynamic Island, 48MP camera, and more coming to the vanilla iPhone 15, but what has proven to be true?
The most notable addition to the vanilla iPhone 15 models is Dynamic Island, a technology that replaced the traditional notch on the iPhone 14 Pro models. It provides users a more intuitive way to interact with their iPhones. While the display size has remained the same at 6.1 inches, Apple has bumped up the brightness to a staggering 2000 nits, which is double when compared to the previous generation.
The standard iPhone 15 also gets an improved camera system, headlined by a primary 48MP primary camera with a quad-pixel sensor and 100 percent Focus Pixels for fast autofocus. It utilizes a 24MP super-high-resolution default that captures detailed and sharp images while maintaining image size efficiency. Using the 2x Telephoto lens, iPhone 15 users can take photos in 0.5x, 1x, 2x zoom levels.
It gets a new Smart HDR system, along with a feature that allows the iPhone to automatically take Portrait photos without having to manually switch modes.
The iPhone 15 gets the A16 Bionic SoC that Apple introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro models last year. It features two high-performance cores that claim to consume about 20 percent less power and a 6-core CPU that promises to offer better performance than last year’s model. Apple claims its new 16-core Neural Engine is capable of nearly 17 trillion operations per second.
Another major change this year is the shift to USB Type-C. After years of waiting, Apple has finally moved away from its proprietary lightning connector and brought USB Type-C technology to its iPhone 15 series, which is a universally accepted standard for charging and transferring data. The iPhone 15 supports MagSafe and future Qi2 wireless charging technologies.
iPhone 15 starts at Rs. 79900 in India and $799 in the US, and will be available in three storage options - 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB options. It is available in five colour options - Pink, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Black. iPhone 15 will be available for pre-orders starting Friday, September 15 at 5 a.m. PDT. It will go on sale starting September 22.
