The British Army’s YouTube and Twitter accounts were hacked by cybercriminals! The YouTube account of the British army was flooded with videos on cryptocurrencies with the images of Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk. At the same time, the Twitter feed itself appeared to have retweeted posts related to NFT. The Guardian report revealed that both the accounts of YouTube and Twitter were simultaneously used by hackers to promote two different cryptocurrency scams.

The hacked Twitter account of the British Army’s Twitter name changed to “BAPESCAN” instead of British Army. Even the profile picture got updated to an image of what looked like a cartoon monkey in face paint. Its description reads, “Follow us for news and information on deployments, training exercises, ceremonial duties & regimental events. Recruiting @armyjobs” was altered by the hackers. During the breach of the Twitter account, hackers changed its description to: “#1 metavesto clan on the ETH chain with multi-billion dollar experience. Powered by @chaintchlabs,” The Guardian reported.

Similarly, the YouTube channel’s name of the British Army was also replaced with an account named Ark Invest along with its logo, which is a global investment firm. The YouTube channel posted several video interviews with Elon Musk about cryptocurrency.

Later, the British Army on Sunday afternoon confirmed the breach of its Twitter and YouTube accounts. However, the accounts have been restored later and the army mentioned that an investigation is underway. The British Army Tweeted, "Apologies for the temporary interruption to our feed. We will conduct a full investigation and learn from this incident. Thanks for following us and normal service will now resume." Right now, it is not clear who hacked the accounts of the British Army, who even renamed the accounts.

This is not the first time when an Army’s social media accounts have been hacked by hackers. Back in July 2020, major US accounts were taken over by hackers in an attempt to promote the Bitcoin Scam. This affected the accounts of Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Barack Obama, Joe Biden and Kanye West.
