Google celebrated the 43rd Earth Day on Monday by doodling the change of seasons through another animated and interactive Google Doodle. The doodle was widely appreciated not only for of its initiative but also for how in a unique and creative way it managed to capture the essence of Earth's ecosytems, its four seasons and its wildlife's natural habitat.

Hitting the play button in the landscape's sun set the doodle going in an un-ending loop, as it moved from season to season. With dandelions in a field, fishes in a pond, bears in caves and a beaver under the ground, Google managed to cover different elements of Earth's ecosystem within its doodle. Beautifully conceptualized with the idea of covering everything that goes on in the planet's environment the Doodle manages to keep the user captivated with its rising Sun and fading moon.

Google has been doodling Earth Day over many years, through beautiful illustrations. It has depicted the frigid poles, space and concepts like solar panels through its doodles that have been appreciated by most users. Following are some of Google's doodles for Earth Days gone by:

"Happy Earth Day" trended on twitter by late afternoon as many from the twitverse tweeted about Earth Day, reminding their fellow tweeple about Earth Day and its relevance. Many Twitter users tweeted about Google's Earth Day doodle as well.

Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 every year. Gaylord Nelson, a US Senator from Wisconsin, came up with the idea of dedicating a day to the Earth and its issues. First celebrated in 1970, the idea was to generate awareness about various environmental challenges like air and water pollution and to encourage people to protect the environment.

The significance of Earth Day has increased over the years as the environment has been increasingly plagued by problems like oil spills, increasing radioactive nuclear waste, and ever-increasing pollution. The UN along with various world leaders has raised concerns about these issues and have stressed on sustainable development as the need of the hour.
