Here is another WhatsApp scam that you need to steer clear of

Called WhatsApp Gold, the scam, which promises exclusive features like video calling and the ability to send 100 pictures, actually ends up infecting your smartphone with malware.

Another WhatsApp scam is doing rounds of the internet yet again.

The touted invitation-only version of the clickbait is also drawing users by claiming that it is used by celebrities only. Users are asked to click on a message which then takes them to www.goldenversion.com and then are asked to download the Gold version of the app.

If you are careless enough to fall into this trap, expect your private data including pictures to be stolen and your location traced and followed. This is not the first time a clickbait has piggybacked Jan Koum-founded and now Mark Zuckerberg-owned instant messaging platform and WhatsApp Plus is one of the most memorable ones.

WhatsApp even has a warning about it on its FAQ section. "WhatsApp Plus is an application that was not developed by WhatsApp, nor is it authorized by WhatsApp.

"The developers of WhatsApp Plus have no relationship to WhatsApp, and we do not support WhatsApp Plus. Please be aware that WhatsApp Plus contains source code which WhatsApp cannot guarantee as safe and that your private information is potentially being passed to 3rd parties without your knowledge or authorization," the official site warns.

If WhatsApp updates its version, you are more likely to get a mail and an official message asking you to upgrade the app from the official play store depending on the mobile operating system you are on.
