The government has announced that DigiLocker services will now be accessible on WhatsApp through MyGov Helpdesk. This will make government services more accessible and inclusive. DigiLocker, a flagship initiative under Digital India programme, aims to strengthen digital empowerment by giving access to digital document wallets where you can store all of your documents. The documents stored in the DigiLocker system are treated as original physical documents which can be accessed anywhere anytime. The official statement says, "Citizens can now access Digilocker services on the MyGov Helpdesk on WhatsApp...Digilocker will be an important citizen service offered by MyGov on WhatsApp to help promote digital inclusion and efficient governance".
Users can do everything from creating and authenticating their Digilocker account, downloading documents such as PAN card, driving license, vehicle registration certificate, and all on WhatsApp. MyGov Helpdesk on WhatsApp will put governance and government services at the fingertips of citizens. WhatsApp users across the country can access DigiLocker by sending a message "DigiLocker" at +91-9013151515.
Upon doing this, it will bring options to create and authenticate their DigiLocker account as well as download documents like PAN card, driving license, CBSE Class 10 passing certificate, Class 10 marksheet, Class 12 marksheet, vehicle registration certificate (RC), insurance policy of two-wheeler, and life and non-life insurance policy.
Similar to the DigiLocker app and website, users will be required to provide their Aadhaar number for authentication.
After the Aadhaar number is entered, the chatbot will validate it with a one-time password (OTP).
Once done, the documents can be downloaded from the messaging app.
