Mi 5 launched today in China, gets over 16 million registrations
Xiaomi Mi 5 released today in China, sets a new record for the company for the maximum number of registrations in a week’s time
Xiaomi unveiled its much-anticipated flagship the Mi 5 last week to the world at MWC 2016. Since then, the device has been up for registrations, for which the company has set a new milestone.
Over 16.8 million users have already registered for today's flash sale, Xiaomi announced in a blog post. The company says it has set a new record which it has managed to achieve in less than a week after the smartphone's official unveiling. This isn't really surprising -- users have been waiting for the Mi 5 flagship for over 18 months. Moreover, the company seems have delivered what Xiaomi fans wanted -- a powerful handset at an affordable price tag.

The Mi 5 went on sale today at 10am China time (7:30 am India time). Xiaomi VP Hugo Barra has confirmed that the device will be released in India very soon, though did not mention a tentative date.
The Mi 5 comes in three models. The Mi 5 Pro is priced at Chinese Yen ¥2699 (around ₹28,307), while 32GB model of Mi 5 comes with a price tag of ¥1999 (₹20,965) and the 64GB model cost Chinese Yen 2299 (₹24,111).

The Mi 5 flaunts a 5.15-inch full HD screen with 1,920x1,080 pixel and features a fingerprint censor and a home button. Under the hood, it gets a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 3GB/4GB RAM, Android 6.0 Marshmallow with MIUI v7.0, along with 32GB/64GB built-in storage. Optics include a 16-megapixel main camera and a 4-megapixel front-snapper while juicing up the smartphone is a 3,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 technology.
