Download speeds during the month of April were lower than previous months according to data by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). Reliance Jio still topped the charts followed by Vodafone and Airtel.

In April, Jio had an average download speed of 13.3 Mbps. This is lower than the recorded speed of Jio in March which was 19.5 Mbps. Vodafone which registered an average download speed of 5.6 Mbps in April had a slightly higher 6.7 Mbps speed the previous month.

Airtel which is still third in terms of download speed registered 5.5 Mbps in April. According to the TRAI data, Airtel's average speed in March was 6.2 Mbps. The fourth spot also remains the same for Idea but with an increased average download speed of 5.4 Mbps in April from 5.1 Mbps in March.

The notable dip in April can be due to the load on internet traffic due to the nationwide lockdown which started on March 24. With people glued to the internet for personal and professional use, internet speeds took a hit.

TRAI collects average download speeds of telcos from its MySpeed application. There's a dedicated website for this where anyone can check the real-time download speeds of 3G and 4G across all states in India, and for all telcos.
