Domestic e-commerce platform Flipkart has said that it is going to replace a social feature on its app with a feature that will allow interaction between customers and sellers soon.
Ping, the social feature in the app, that allowed consumers to reach out to friends and family along with image search will be shut down as consumers are showing very little interest in these features which were launched just about an year ago.
"After 25th June, 2016 users will not be able to chat with their friends or family on Ping but will be able to browse through their existing chats on the app," a company statement said. "Customers will continue to be able to share any messages or products through any social media platform of their choice."
Both the features were launched under the leadership of company's former chief product officer Punit Soni. Soni, an ex-googler, quit Flipkart in April to pursue new opportunities in Silicon Valley.
"We will, keeping in mind the consumer preference, discontinue image search, but will continue to support the "visually similar" feature on the platform to make shopping easy and seamless," a Flipkart spokesperson told the Economic Times .
The customer-seller chat comes in replacement of Ping and customer care chat feature will also be available soon. This means that customers will soon be able to get better clarity on products and services on the e-commerce platform.
