Work from home life: I miss my 'Summer of 69'

  • The 1st Gen Apple iPod Shuffle turned 15 this year. Technology is a whole new adventure right now. However, today, looking back, there are so many things we miss

We've come a long, long way since the iPod Shuffle 1st Gen launched. Fifteen whole years!

This is the photo of the very first Apple iPod I bought. I also have a pen drive with 256 MB (yes you read it right) of storage. The leap that technology has taken since looks like all this was made eons ago! But it was a rage at that time.

The whole concept of physically taking stuff (read content) from one place to another WITHOUT letting anyone know what’s inside it, was fascinating. Even if your parents caught you, they could never really find what you are carrying.

The computing power too was evolving then. A Pentium 3 processor was the benchmark in processing speed, it gave our gang goosebumps when we first saw gaming on a Pentium 3 machine. But a lot has changed since then.

Technology has evolved at breakneck speed. We now talk in Terabytes and Teraflops. The PCs all of us own today are supercomputers compared to those in the 90's. But all this has come at a cost.

People to people contact has become almost negligible. Everything happens over the Internet. And the coronavirus pandemic and work from home has made it worse.

Today, I miss my ‘Summer of 69’.
