Xiaomi Redmi 5A launched in China: Here’s how it compares with Redmi 4A
Xiaomi has added another smartphone to its Redmi series. The new Xiaomi Redmi 5A is an upgraded variant of the popular Redmi 4A smartphone.
Xiaomi on Monday launched a new smartphone under its popular Redmi series. Called Redmi 5A, the smartphone is priced at RMB 599 (approximately ₹5,900) and will be initially available in China.
Considering the popularity of Redmi-series phones in India, Xiaomi will most likely launch the phone in the country sooner or later.
As the name implies, the Xiaomi Redmi 5A is an upgraded variant of the Redmi 4A, which launched in India in May this year. The Redmi 4 is currently available online for ₹5,999. The new Redmi 5A comes with a similar set of specifications as on the Redmi 4A, but has some subtle upgrades such as Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based MIUI 8 and a relatively bigger 3,120mAh battery, and is upgradable to Android 7.0 Nougat.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5A features a metal body with glass front. It comes with a 5-inch display with 720p resolution, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 processor coupled with 2GB RAM. The smartphone comes with 16GB of built-in storage, which is expandable up to 128GB via a microSD card.
The smartphone sports a 13-megapixel rear sensor with f/2.2 aperture and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. Connectivity options include dual-SIM, 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth, GPS and microUSB.

The Xiaomi Redmi 4A also has a 5-inch HD display, powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 425 processor and 2GB RAM. It comes with 16GB of built-in storage, which is expandable up to 128GB via a microSD card.
The smartphone features the same camera specifications as the Redmi 5A - 13-megapixel rear sensor and 5-megapixel front camera. Connectivity options include dual-SIM support, VoLTE, Bluetooth, and GPS. However, unlike Redmi 5A, it is powered by a 3,000mAh battery.
While the Redmi 4A is one the most affordable Xiaomi smartphones in India, the Chinese company also offers an upgraded variant, called the Redmi 4. This model is available online at a starting price of ₹5,999. The smartphone comes with a 5-inch HD display. It runs on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 435 processor coupled with 2GB/3GB/4GB RAM. The smartphone is available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB storage variants. A 4,000mAh battery powers the smartphone.
