Mera Ration app: All you need to know about this new app the Indian govt just launched
The Mera Ration app is for migrant labourers who have to keep moving for work and ideally need a ration card that should work across states.
The government of India has just launched the Mera Ration app that’s going to help migrant workers. Mera Ration has been launched by the ministry of consumer affairs, food and public distribution and the app is a part of the government’s One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) system.
The Mera Ration app is for migrant labourers who have to keep moving for work and ideally need a ration card that should work across states. The app currently covers 32 states and union territories and according to reports the remaining states are going to be added soon.
Secretary of the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Sudhanshu Pandey, said that the system was initially started in four states in August 2019 and was then rolled out to 32 states and union territories by December last year. The only states not on the roster right now include Assam, Chhattisgarh, Delhi and West Bengal and these four are expected to be included over the next few months.
Pandey said that right now the system covers nearly 69 crore NFSA (National Food Security Act) beneficiaries which is about 86% of the NFSA population in India and there is a monthly average of about 1.5 to 1.6 crore portability transactions being recorded under ONORC system.
Important things to know about the Mera Ration app
- The Mera Ration mobile app is only on Android for now. All Indian citizens can register themselves on the app to get food grains at subsidised prices.
- The Mera Ration app also allows users to check what they are entitled to, locate nearby ration shops etc. It also supports biometric authentication.
- The Mera Ration app comes with Aadhar-based login and is available in both Hindi and English. Support for 14 regional languages is expected to come soon.
- You can download the app from the Google Play Store and once it’s downloaded you need to register using your ration card details.
