Google officially retires its Home Max smart speaker

Google launched its Home Max smart speaker back in 2017 for $399. Now, nearly three years later, the company has officially discontinued the device.

Both the Charcoal and Chalk colour variants of the Google Home Max are out of stock on the company’s store in the US. And Google in a statement to Engadget has confirmed that it is no longer manufacturing new units of its three-year-old smart speaker.

While Google has stopped manufacturing Home Max smart speakers, it hasn’t ended support to the existing users. The company, in a statement to the publication, confirmed that it will continue to provide security updates and software fixes to all of its existing Google Home Max smart speakers. The company also said that it remained ‘committed to delivering great sound and whole-home audio features’ to all of its Google Assistant-enabled devices.

Notably, on one hand, Google retired its Home Max smart speaker, and on the other hand, the company released major updates to the Nest Hub Max smart speaker. The company, as per a report by The Verge, has started rolling out support for Zoom on the Nest Hub Max smart display. This feature is available as an early preview for users in the US, UK, Australia and Canada.

Zoom, back in August this year, had announced that its platform would be available on Google Nest Hub Max, Facebook Portals and the Amazon Echo Show series later this year. Now, one of those devices has started receiving the update.
