Nokia brand licensee HMD Global will introduce a new naming convention this year, reports Nokiapoweruser.

According to the report, HMD Global will introduce the G and H series of smartphones. The new naming system will also replace the current lineup. At the moment, HMD Global has C-series and number-based naming systems such as Nokia 5.4 and Nokia 2.4. The naming convention will also bring the smartphones closer to rivals’ offerings, usually the combination of an alphabet and number. For instance, Samsung has A, M and S series of phones. Xiaomi offers series like Redmi Note and K.

The report further said that Nokia G10 could be HMD Global’s first phone under the new naming convention. The smartphone is said to come with a 6.4-inch display. An octa-core processor will reportedly power the phone. The handset is also rumoured to come with a quad-camera setup with a 48-megapixel primary sensor.

That said, HMD Global’s last major smartphone launch was Nokia 3.4. Priced at 11,999, Nokia 3.4 comes in Fjord, Dusk and Charcoal colour options. The handset has a 6.39-inch HD+ display with a punch-hole camera on the front. For performance, the smartphone uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 processor coupled with 4GB of RAM. The phone comes with 64GB of internal storage. A 4,000mAh battery powers the phone.

On the software front, Nokia 3.4 runs on Android 10 out-of-the-box. It is also based on Google’s Android One programme. It means the phone will receive at least three years of monthly security updates and two years of software upgrades. The smartphone also comes with Google Podcasts pre-loaded.

For photography, the phone offers a triple rear camera setup that consists of a 13-megapixel primary sensor, a 2-megapixel depth sensor, and a 5-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor. On the front, it has an 8-megapixel selfie camera.
